On 10th April, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) of the European Parliament gathered distinguished speakers to debate and question the future validity of our current economic model and to search for viable alternatives.

WIL Vice-president Pervenche Beres is Chairwoman of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament. Appointed as a rapporteur of the EP Special Committee on the Economic, Financial and Social Crisis, Pervenche led the efforts of the EP to establish the origins of the crisis and recommend solutions to avoid its repetition. Her report was adopted by the EP in July 2011. Some of its conclusions are highlighted in our interview with Pervenche.

Sixtine Bouygues will be taking a thrilling new role in the Directorate-General for Communication, where she will make the best use of her previous experience. As the new acting Director for Communication Actions and Head of Unit Communication Strategy and Projects, her responsibilities will concern research, media monitoring and analysis, audiovisual services, media networks, and the development of the inter-institutional website Europa.

Re-elected Member of the European Parliament, Edit Herczog is a promoter of research and development and e-skills. Before entering politics in 1998, Edit has worked both in academic research and business, developing solutions for the food industry.
