On 9th July 2013, WIL acted as official partner for the book launch of “Entrepreneurs need Freedom”, written by Member of the European Parliament Dr. Paul Rübig. The launch took place at the European Parliament in front of an exclusive audience invested in the growth and flourishing of SMEs in Europe, and WIL had the honor to interview the MEP before the event.

WIL Vice-president Pervenche Beres is Chairwoman of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament. Appointed as a rapporteur of the EP Special Committee on the Economic, Financial and Social Crisis, Pervenche led the efforts of the EP to establish the origins of the crisis and recommend solutions to avoid its repetition. Her report was adopted by the EP in July 2011. Some of its conclusions are highlighted in our interview with Pervenche.

Financial regulations, the single market and corporate governance were the three pillars of economic growth discussed at a luncheon with WIL Brussels-based members by Sharon Bowles, Chair Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in the European Parliament, and Paulina Dejmek, Member of Cabinet of Commissioner for Internal Market and Services Michel Barnier.

Her portfolio includes civil justice, criminal justice, fundamental rights and citizenship and, as part of her priorities, she will be responsible with the development of comprehensive EU policy frameworks for judicial cooperation, drugs policy coordination, data protection, EU citizenship and contract law and consumer rights.

Sixtine Bouygues will be taking a thrilling new role in the Directorate-General for Communication, where she will make the best use of her previous experience. As the new acting Director for Communication Actions and Head of Unit Communication Strategy and Projects, her responsibilities will concern research, media monitoring and analysis, audiovisual services, media networks, and the development of the inter-institutional website Europa.

Dr Parvanova started her political career when elected Member of the Bulgarian Parliament in 2001. She became Member of the European Parliament in 2007, where she notably initiated and led a campaign on Patients' Rights in Europe.

Ably hosted by Member of the European Parliament Edit Herczog, WiL convened seven most distinguished new Members of the European Parliament together with private sector members of the network, academics as well as the European Commission members.

Re-elected Member of the European Parliament, Edit Herczog is a promoter of research and development and e-skills. Before entering politics in 1998, Edit has worked both in academic research and business, developing solutions for the food industry.
