Biography
Gabriel is currently Head of the Africa and Indian Ocean Department at Secours Catholique Caritas France (SCCF) where she is responsible for developing the organisation’s regional strategy and managing the department’s multi-million-euro project portfolio. She leads a 7-person team in implementing the department strategy through locally-driven actions and advocacy (agroecology, gender equality, social cohesion, migration, democracy…).
Gabriel began her career in international development with the United Nations Development Program analyzing energy access and women’s empowerment in West Africa. She then joined the UNESCO Culture Sector where she worked for 14 years, during which time she managed the UNESCO International Fund for the Promotion of Culture, developed public-private partnerships and led a cultural exchange programme for youth. Gabriel led the design of a multi-country, multi-million-euro climate education project in Africa at the Office for Climate Education, where she also developed and facilitated strategic-planning workshops and high-level policy debates for decision-makers from over 20 countries.
Gabriel has worked as a preschool teacher in New York and has 10 years’ experience teaching English as a second language at the primary, secondary and university levels.
She is married, has two sons and has produced a CD of her original piano compositions.
